The Glory of Brass and Voice May 11th

The Choirs of St. Paul's and St. James' will join together again for the annual spring concert at St. Paul's on May 11, 2014.

Our Senior Choir and the St. James’ Anglican Church choir are in rehearsal for their annual spring concert, which will take place on Sunday May 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Paul’s United Church sanctuary.  The concert is entitled “The Glory of Brass and Voice” and will include repertoire written for choir and instrumentalists.

We are very fortunate to have several professional brass players now living in Perth.  Mark Bailey, Jim Waters and Steve Guerin all played for many years in the Central Band of the Canadian Forces and have played in other concerts at St Paul’s. They will be joined by two additional brass players, as well as Brad and Sue’s son Greg, who will play percussion.

The concert will feature music from the late Renaissance to the present day, including composers Gabrieli, Bach , Barber and Rutter.  Several of the pieces will be done in antiphonal style, where the choir and instrumentalists are positioned in separate locations and engage in a musical dialogue of statement, answer and echo.

The brasses will join Brad at the organ in performances of Widor’s Toccata from Organ Symphony Five, and in two movements from Handel’s Water Music.

Audience members will be able to join in with a rousing rendition of the Easter hymn, Thine is The Glory, scored for organ, brass and percussion
